Three
Ananda Margas and an advocate were today sentenced to life imprisonment for the
killing of former Railway Minister L N Mishra nearly 40 years ago with a Delhi
Court holding that the terror act was aimed at pressurising the Indira Gandhi
government to release the group's jailed chief.
Judge Vinod Goel, who held three Ananda Margas - Santoshanand, Sudevanand and Gopalji and advocate Ranjan Dwivedi guilty of murdering Mishra and two others, also directed the Bihar Government to pay Rs five lakh each to the legal heirs of Mishra and two other victims who had died in a blast at Bihar's Samastipur Railway station on 2 January, 1975, just few months before the proclamation of Emergency.
It also
asked the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the
family members of seven persons who had sustained grievous injuries and Rs
50,000 each to the kin of 20 others who had received simple injuries in the
incident.
“I am awarding life imprisonment to Ranjan Dwivedi, Santoshanand, Sudevanand and Gopalji,” the judge said and also imposed a fine of varied amount of Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 on them. The court, in its 1,123-page judgement, said when Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar alias Anand Murti, who was accused in a murder case and later acquitted, could not secure his enlargement on bail, his followers had resorted to “revolutionary methods” by taking law into their own hands with arms and ammunitions. “They (followers) were guided by the passion and also became blindfolded to achieve the misunderstood targets. They entertained an idea that by causing a big jolt in the establishment by the acts of terror, the Government would buckle under their pressure to release their Guru/cult head,” the judge said.

and two others in a blast in Bihar's Samastipur railway station nearly 40 years
back, were today awarded life imprisonment by a Delhi court.

Goel handed down the jail term to Ranjan Dwivedi, Santoshanand, Sudevanand and
Gopalji who were convicted for offences under various provisions of the IPC,
including sections 302 (murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by
dangerous weapon or means), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 120-B (criminal
conspiracy).
"I am awarding life imprisonment to Ranjan Dwivedi, Santoshanand, Sudevanand and Gopalji," the judge said in a jampacked courtroom.

Besides the
jail term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each on Santoshanand, 75,
and Sudevanand, 79, while a fine of Rs 20,000 each was slapped on Dwivedi, 66
and Gopalji, 73.
The court,
in its judgement, directed the Bihar government to pay a compensation of Rs
five lakh each to the legal heirs of Mishra and two other victims who had died
in the incident.
It also
asked the Bihar government to pay a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the
family members of seven persons who had sustained grievous injuries and Rs
50,000 each to the kin of 20 others who had received simple injuries in the
incident.
The judge
said that the compensation will be given by the state government through the
state legal services authority.
The four
convicts were also held guilty for possessing hand grenades under the Explosive
Substances Act.
During the
arguments on quantum of sentence in the case, the CBI had left it to the
discretion of the court whether the convicts deserved death penalty.
The court
had on December 8 had convicted three Ananda Margas and Dwivedi for conspiring
and killing Mishra and two others in a blast at the Samastipur railway station
on January 2, 1975.
The four
convicts were taken into custody on December 8 after their conviction.
Ananda
Marga group claims to be a global, spiritual and social service organisation.
The organisation was banned for less than two years after Mishra's
assassination.
The case
was first handled by the Bihar Police and after few days it was handed over to
the State CB-CID branch and the court proceedings were held at Samastipur.
The case
was later transferred to CBI which on November 1, 1977 filed a charge sheet in
a special court at Patna.
The case
was shifted to Delhi on the directions of the Supreme Court on December 17,
1979 as first case in the country to have been transferred outside the state
for fear of destruction of evidence.

conviction happens after 40 years, and it happened in the days of the new
governments of India. This time the sect
of Ananda Marga and their leaders couldn't escape.
On Dec 11
2014, the New Governments of India succeeded to get 21st June as World Yoga Day
from the United Nations. Indian
government has also created an Ayurvedic and Yoga ministry.
These
actions are the main cause of upset for the Ananda Marga sect and their
followers. Therefore some of the Ananda
Margi sub leaders have started a slandering propaganda worldwide against
Gurukul Yoga Traditions of India.
Before we
expose some of the Ananda Margi followers and their actions, let's see the
historical actions in the past of this Sect.
The Sydney
Hilton bombing occurred on 13 February 1978, when a bomb exploded outside the
Hilton Hotel in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. At the time the hotel was
the site of the first Commonwealth Heads of Government Regional Meeting
(CHOGRM), a regional off-shoot of the biennial meetings of the heads of
government from across the Commonwealth of Nations.
The bomb
was planted in a rubbish bin and exploded when the bin was emptied into a
garbage truck outside the hotel at 12:40 a.m. It killed two garbage collectors,
Alec Carter and William Favell. A police officer guarding the entrance to the
hotel lounge, Paul Birmistriw, died later. It also injured eleven others.
Twelve foreign leaders were staying in the hotel at the time, but none were
injured. Australian prime minister Malcolm Fraser immediately called out the
Australian Army for the remainder of the CHOGRM meeting.
In June
1978, members of the Ananda Marga organisation were implicated by a police
informant, Richard John Seary, but his evidence has been discredited. A member
of Ananda Marga, Evan Pederick, claimed in 1989 that he had carried out the
Hilton bombing on the orders of another member, Tim Anderson. Both men went to
prison, but Anderson was acquitted on appeal in 1991. Pederick served eight
years in prison.
The Indian
prime minister Morarji Desai claimed that Ananda Marga had attempted to kill
him due to the imprisonment of the organisation's spiritual leader, Shrii Shrii
Anandamurti. (There had been other alleged attacks by Ananda Marga, namely on
15 September 1977 the military attaché at the Indian Embassy, Colonel Singh and
his wife, were attacked in Canberra. Just over a month later an Air India
employee in Melbourne was stabbed.) ASIO had infiltrated the Ananda Marga from
1976 and were monitoring it.

The Purulia
arms drop case is the legal case regarding an incident on 17 December 1995 in
which unauthorised arms were dropped from an Antonov An-26 aircraft in Purulia
district in the state of West Bengal in India. The chief accused "Kim
Davy" (real name Niels Holck, alias Niels Christian Nielsen) claims that
it was a conspiracy of the Congress Indian government together with RAW and MI5
to overthrow the communist government in West Bengal and he was given
assurances from the central government about his safety and return to Denmark.
He further alleges that MP Pappu Yadav, in association with the then Prime
Minister of India facilitated his safe exit from India.
A Latvian aircraft dropped a large consignment of arms including several hundred AK-47 rifles and more than a million rounds of ammunition over a large area in Jhalda, Ghatanga, Belamu, Maramu villages of Purulia district on the night of 17 December 1995.[citation needed] Several days later, when the plane re-entered Indian airspace, it was intercepted by the Indian Air Force MiG-21 and forced to land.
While the true motive is shrouded in mystery and conjecture, the BBC, after its investigation into it, alleged that arms were intended for the socio-spiritual organization Ananda Marga. In 1995,
Niels Holck decided to arm guards protecting a Hindu organisation, the Ananda
Marga, in the Indian state of West Bengal. He escaped back to Denmark and has been the target of
an extradition battle for over a decade. In 2011 the Eastern High Court decided
that he couldn’t be delivered to India due to the risk of torture, plunging
Denmark into a deep diplomatic crisis with the world’s largest democracy after
they imposed trade and visa sanctions on Denmark in retaliation.
Holck is an
animated man with a greying goatee and wiry frame who now lives north of
Copenhagen in a small community with his wife and two children. He explains
that while he is upset that his case has brought Denmark and India into
conflict, he is unrepentant about his decision to fly weapons into India almost
two decades ago.
An Indian
court in 1997 determined that the Ananda Marga group was indeed the intended
recipient of the guns and ammunition. Based on the pilot's testimony, along
with other evidence such as a photograph of the Ananda Marga headquarters on the
aircraft, the Judge ruled: "as per the materials available I hold that it
has been established from the materials on record that the places where the arms
were targeted to be dropped were of Anandamargies and precisely three storied
white building was the target point and at that target point the arms were
tried to be dropped from a flying aircraft and the aircraft has been pin
pointed as per the evidence and materials on record." However, despite the
passage of years, many details of the incident are wrapped in mystery, and
there has been considerable speculation as to the purpose and modality of the
operation.

Indian Gurukul yoga tradition. (Gurukula or gurukul (Sanskrit: गुरुकुल) is a type of school in India,
residential in nature, with pupils (Shishya) living near the Guru, within the
same Ashram (a spiritual hermitage).
Prior to
modern time, they served as primary holistic educational institution. The
guru-shishya tradition (parampara) is a hallowed one in Sanantana
Dharma/Hinduism and appears in other religious groups of India, such as
Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. The word gurukula is a contraction of the
Sanskrit words: guru (teacher or master) and kula (extended family).

personalities, who have given their entire life in service to the humanity
world wide. Also these Ananda Marga
followers are attacking the disciples and believers of the Ancient Indian Gurukul Traditions.
By applying
these tactics, Ananda Marga followers are trying to upset and confuse the
disciples and followers of the other Indian Gurukul traditions followed by
people, world wide. Ananda Marga's
followers are attacking with the mask of their fake morality and fake friendly
personalities. They are promising to
help their newly made friends with fake business offers and give them false
moral satisfaction, and when their innocent, unsuspecting friends are fully
confused from their lies, they suggest the Prout theory (Progressive Utilization
Theory) of Ananda Marga.

NEW DELHI:As the country gears up to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on Sunday, the Intelligence agencies have warned the government of a possible backlash by the miscreants and western outlets with commercial interests. Trying to gang up against India’s move to spread yoga among the masses, these outlets have already started circulating objectionable content on social media platforms to stir up communal hatred across the country.
The Intelligence agencies indicate that such efforts are being taken intentionally to nip Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grand plan in the bud. In a 50-page dossier, the Intelligence agencies have made it clear that some individuals and associations have launched systematic attack on yoga and the Hindu spiritual gurus. These associations have also dubbed yoga as an exercise to please the Hindu deity, and that is something insulting to the believers of other religions.
“As soon as 175 nations’ resolution was adopted on International Yoga Day and India, for the first time, received global recognition as the land of yoga, the outright opposition was noticed from commercially interested outlets in the West as well as by several associations camouflaged as cultural organisations,” the Intelligence dossier said.
The extensive report based on intelligence monitoring also claims that the social media is going abuzz with various campaigns against the yoga gurus, soon after India disclosed its grand plan of celebrating the Yoga Day.
Gurus Targetted
The Intelligence inputs also reveal that a few suspicious accounts are being used to circulate the list of yoga trainers and spiritual gurus, accusing them of being involved in sexual and physical abuse. “Close monitoring has revealed that there is a well-planned campaign underway to denigrate spiritual and yoga institutions in India,” the report added.
It also pointed out that Facebook and other social media sites are flooding with scandalous, defamatory content through fake profiles. Blog posts are also being uploaded asking people to boycott the Yoga Day. “Attempt is being made to malign the image of Satyananda Yoga, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Kaustubh Desikachar, Divine Life Society, Sri Aurobindo institution, Bihar School of Yoga and ISKCON,” the Intelligence report further claimed.
Some of the suspicious posts, however, were blocked with the help of cyber security agencies. “Posts about embezzlement of funds, sexual abuse and sex trafficking surfaced recently on social media and now being circulated using two fake profiles,” an Intelligence officer said, adding, “We have noticed that these suspicious users are removing the content within 48 hours and are using another new link to post the same content. This is being done to avoid a crackdown.”
Missionary Angle
While finding out the modus operandi, the Intelligence officials have also observed that strong anti-yoga campaigns are launched by missionaries after US-based Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz asked Catholics to stay away from yoga since its basis is Hinduism. Even the Christian associations and Ministries have backed a similar move.
The dossier also mentions a post which started the anti-Yoga campaign maligning Hinduism, calling it “holy hell... a pure madness”. Although, the post was removed by the Indian agencies, several new blog posts have now surfaced on social media, asking people to boycott yoga. “The President of southern Baptist theological seminary too has opposed yoga, calling it contradictory to Christian understanding. There are many others in the US who are campaigning, warning people about dangers of yoga,” the dossier noted.
Business Interests
And not just the Christianity angle, the dossier indicates that commercial interest could also be involved here. Since India is reclaiming yoga for the first time on global platform, many commercial outfits in the US, which dominate the yoga business, could be behind the anti-yoga campaign. With yoga being more popular in the US and other Western countries, India’s recent move may have upset some outlets which have been marketing yoga as their own product, all this while.
Quoting several news reports in American, British and Australian media, the Intelligence report claims that there is criticism of India’s move to reclaim yoga in certain sectors, where commercial interests are involved. The report also quotes current commercial valuation of Yoga citing reports from market research agency. It says around $27 billion are spent annually in the US on yoga products and there will be around 4.8 per cent projected annual increase in industry revenue by 2017. The worldwide yoga market is estimated to be around $67 billion.
But now, with India taking a big initiative, the business may hit a road-block. And this could also be one of the reasons behind the criticism.
